Running can be an addiction for some, but listen to Scott's story and I think you'll see it's an addiction worth having. Plus he'll put a smile on your face for the entire podcast.

Today we’d like to welcome to the show Scott Searle. Scott has been able to use running as a way to escape a serious drug and alcohol addiction, a story that many in the long distance running community have heard or can relate to themselves. However, Scott’s running comes with a bit of a twist but we’ll get to that in a bit!

Welcome to another episode of the Orange Mud Adventure Channel Podcast. Today your hosts are myself, Josh Sprague and Paul Jesse from Orange Mud. We’re excited to talk today with Adam Zucco. Adam has been coaching triathletes for over 15 years and, along with his partner Joe Friel, founded Training Bible Coaching. Adam has coached countless athletes to PRs, Kona Qualification as well as US Olympians.

Today we’re going to dig in to the topic of training with a Power meter. A power meter is a device that basically measures the power output of a rider. Most use strain gauges to measure torque applied and combined with angular velocity calculate power. Adam is an expert in this arena, Paul and I, well, not so much, so we’re really excited to dig into how it can be used to improve your training and racing on the bike as well as the in-roads currently being made in running with power measuring devices.

Adam is such a stud that 8 of his athletes have qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kona this year!

Have you ever wanted to customize your nutrition in terms of calories, carbohydrates, flavor, sodium, and more? Infinit Nutrition offers a custom solution to your hydration needs with a stereo equalizer approach to customization that you and your hydration consult can work to develop. It starts with a custom consult to get your first formula, then you can tweak or lock it in from there. The lemon lime at half flavor is amazing by the way, and the fruit punch flavored Repair formula works wonders and tastes just like a pina colada!

A big shout out to Michael, the CEO and founder of Infinit for the call. This was a great learning experience for us and we hope for you too!

If you listened to some of our other podcast you’ll know I’m doing the Leadman series of events this year. So aside of what we hope to provide for our listener interest, I have my own personal agenda that is really digging all the info I’m learning about tackling this 5 part event. It’s been extra exciting to have the founders of the Leadville Race Series, nutritionist, sports psychologist, coaches, and today my buddy Don Reichelt, a recent Leadman finisher and endurance coach on the podcast. In this episode we’re going to dig into the sport of endurance for those that are looking to get into it or step up their distance a bit. Don has been racing ultras for a couple years now, but tackled Leadman without even being a mountain biker until about 6 months before it, yet still rocked it with style. That sounds crazy, but I’m sure many of you have had a similar entry of diving in head first, then figuring it out in route.

  • Leadman Finisher-2015
  • Tunnel Hill 100 – 4th place overall, 2016
  • Antelope Canyon 50 Miler – 3rd overall, 2017

Today on the show we have someone who I believe is the most well rounded athlete, business person, charity driven, and motivational person on the planet and her name is Robyn Benincasa out of Southern California. I first met Robyn about 10 years ago when I was racing with her brother Jack London in a ton of adventure races. Robyn is the crazy sister that we idolized as she was always a long ways ahead of us in any event that we were in together. She became a world champion adventure racer on team Nike, Merrel, and Earthlink, and has taken top finishes in the Eco Challenge, Primal Quest, and other top adventure races across the globe. In addition she holds world records for endurance paddling via stand up paddle board and kayaking, is a 10x Ironman finisher, twice on the podium, Judo National Champion, award winning motivational speaker, firefighter, and founder of Project Athena.
